The rubber-burning world of the sport compact sedan and hatch has come a long way over the last few years. People want speed, handling and tune-ability. They also want European design and bang for theirbuck. At Volkswagen, we’ve been giving our autos more punch and power in the United States since 1983, when we introduced the concept of a sport compact with the original Mk I GTI. Still a collector’s favorite, it is the inspiration for the Mk V GTI. The new GTI features an efficient, Autobahn-proven, 2.0L turbocharged direct injection engine, German-tuned sport suspension and meticulously speedy Volkswagen DNA.
